The Dublin SPCA today has called for the microchipping of all dogs.
Following a number of cases in recent months where animals have been rescued or arrived at the shelter in Rathfarnham as victims of severe neglect and abuse, and the culprits cannot be brought to justice because ownership cannot be established, the Dublin SPCA is calling for the Government to make microchipping of dogs mandatory.

IKC Microchipping Programme
As of today (1 January 2006) all puppies must be microchipped before registration can be considered by the Irish Kennel Club. All ISO standard microchips are acceptable.

ELF Group has handed over the control and running of PetTrace to the DSPCA.
Frank Stewart, who started the pet reunification service in 2000 and built it into the largest of its kind in Ireland decided it was time to divest of the service and concentrate on our core business of providing impartial and honest advice about microchipping.
Now owned and run by the DSPCA, PetTrace is providing an indespensible service reuniting lost animals with their rightful owners.

The Irish Horse Board today announced on their web-site that passports will be issued for foals without breeding only if they are microchipped. ALL donkeys must be microchipped (as markings are not readily visible). Owners can request that microchip numbers of adult horses be recorded at time of registration. ISO Standard microchips as supplied by ELF Group are accepted.

From 3 July 2004 pet dogs and cats may travel directly into Ireland provided that amongst other requirements, the animal is identified by means of a microchip.
