Passport Fees for Non-Pedigree Animals

In response to a proposal received from The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Irish Horse Board will offer a once off reduction in registration fees for adult animals with no recorded breeding (white passport), in order to encourage owners to register their horses. To that end, passports fees for non-pedigree adult animals will be reduced from €35 to €25 throughout January and February 2008.

An Taoiseach Mr Bertie Ahern launched the Dublin SPCA 'No pets for Christmas Appeal' on 6th December 2007 at Government Buildings. The Dublin SPCA has already started its Christmas campaign asking the public not to give puppies, kittens or any young animals as Christmas presents.

The Goffs/DBS Group have announced that they will extend the blood test for Banned drugs to include Anabolic Steroids with effect from 1 January 2008. Due to recent improvements in the accuracy and speed of testing methods for Anabolic steroids, the decision by the Goffs and DBS Boards to introduce this option continues the Group’s ongoing efforts to increase transparency within the bloodstock industry.

The Senior Steward of the Turf Club and Vice-Chairman of Horse Racing Ireland, Pierce G. Molony, will this year deliver the key address at the 45th Carbine Club lunch on the eve of the Derby on the Friday before the Melbourne Cup. The luncheon is an official part of the Victorian Racing Club’s Spring Racing Programme. Mr. Molony said he was honoured to be asked to deliver the address on behalf of Irish Racing. It is another clear recognition of the standing our Bloodstock Industry has on the International stage.

The DSPCA are urgently appealing for permanaent foster homes for a number of horses and ponies currently at their shelter in Rathfarnham. They are currently overwhelmed with the numbers at the shelter. These animals have come to them as a result of cruelty and neglect. The majority are unbroken and can only be homed as companion animals. If you are interested in homing any of these animals, please contact the shelter at 01-4935502 and ask for PJ Doyle.

Department Of Agriculture - Reminder for Goat Herders

From 15 September 2005 all goats moved from the holding must be double tagged (i.e. a tag in each ear) on movement with tags (white) showing the owner's goat herd designator (available from the local DVO) and an individual number. All movements must be accompanied by a dispatch document.

Department of Agriculture - Reminder - Goat Registration

From 9 July 2005, any person who holds or keeps goats in the State must apply for registration of the holding to the local District Veterinary Office of the Department for the area in which the holding is situated.
